Apple TV cannot connect to server or play content


  1. User will receive an error mid-playback
  2. User will try to start a movie and will receive an error


Sometimes users will receive a message while watching Apple TV that says "cannot connect to the server".  It will display a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in the center.

To resolve, first go to Settings, General, Software Update and make sure you have the most current version.  Download and install the newest software if you do not.

If you have the most up-to-date software, try restarting the Apple TV.  To restart your Apple TV go to Settings > General > Restart.

Why does this happen?

Companies like Apple + Microsoft are diligent in releasing updates for their machines/technology to remain secure, operable and current.  As a result, companies need to follow-in-line and conform to the latest requirements set by Apple, Microsoft, etc.
